DISCOVERING FLORENCE - Travel to Tuscany

In the heart of Florence, when you come around the corner,I cannot begin to explain to you when you get a glimpse of the Cathedral.

You stop.

I got goose bumps. I still do when I think about it.

I won’t go into all the details you can get that when you go. But this Cathedral took them 140 years to finish.

It was started on September 8, 1296. Finished in 1434.

When you approach this amazing site, you are in awe over the architecture, the paintings, and well just the beauty of the whole thing. And this is only the outside. The cathedrals Museo Dell’Opera Del Duomo is even more spectacular.

Then you have the extra bonus of the Michelangelo sculptures.

The Piazza Della Signoria is truly one of the most beautiful Italian squares.

Fontana Del Biancone (the Neptune Fountain), the Marzocco (the Lion), the Equestrian statue and of course David.

Do not forget to head up the tower for the panoramic view. You will be astounded.

Remember my intrigue about the “doors”?

The Baptistry of St. Giovanni has the most remarkable doors. There are 3 of them.

A lot of English speaking vendors here.

Our nephew plays guitar and sings. He found a side street off the main vendor area opened his case and played. He made some extra spending money!

The young artists with their chalk paintings on the sidewalks. Literally on the sidewalks. The gardens beautiful and immaculate. The history timeless.

We decided to take a carriage ride. Our driver took us around the Piazza and pointed out the must see historic sites. Although, our daughter and niece scoped out the shopping.

Speaking of shopping do not pass up Ponte Vecchio. The oldest bridge built in 1345. You can’t miss it. It has 3 arches.

Florence is a beautiful city to see. There is so much to see.

We saw all of city centre east.

The guides there break Florence into city centre east, north, and west. Then they head out across the river.

We only had the day. So on the agenda for our return.

Heading back to the villa my brothers decided they were just going to relax the next day. So we had to decide where to go by ourselves.
