VOLTERRA - Travel To Tuscany

All the museums in Volterra are known throughout Italy as the best. Italians travel here to see them.

We have a bunch of teenage girls who all read a very popular book "Twilight". It takes place here.

This is a very small town. Like all of Italy the buildings are old and so is the history and art. This little town kind of comes out of the middle of nowhere surrounded by much of the beautiful Tuscan landscape. It has always been known for its minerals and stones especially alabaster. It has been mined here for centuries.

Museo Etrusco Guarnacci - It houses a large antique collection of Etruscan artifacts.

Pinacoteca e Museo Civico - An acclaimed collection of religious art. Much of the art at the Vatican is from here.

We found the center of town (where much of the book takes place). Our girls all took pictures and we bought souvenirs for them and their friends.

The souvenirs were of course made from alabaster.

Back to the villa for a sample of the fresh food and wine we bought at the markets in San Gimignano.

Sitting around an 18 foot dinner table with all of our kids and not having it be Christmas was great!

We chatted to the wee hours about our day. And planned tomorrow.
