HOTELS

Hotels. Hundreds to choose from, just in Florence! So here are some guidelines to keep in mind when booking a room in Tuscany.

Your options vary in Italy. They can be from the usual to a historic building. A castle, former palace or a building with artistic interests will be expensive.

The higher rate hotels have a restaurant on site, linens changed daily, room service and laundry services. Breakfast is usually included. The lower rates change bed linens every 2-3 days, no restaurant, and have very basic amenities. When booking it is Italian law that your booking is valid as soon as a deposit is made. Two other laws to keep in mind. When you check in anywhere they ask for your passport to register you with the police. And always keep all of your receipts until you leave Italy.

If your are renting a car keep in mind parking facilities. Also watch telephone charges. They can be quite expensive.

Budget accommodations are usually family owned. The amenities are few but most offer breakfast. Be sure to check if your room has a private bathroom.
