TRAVEL TO TUSCANY Our Arrival

We were looking forward to our travel to Tuscany. Today was the day. There is no easy way to get to Rome but the long flight was soon forgotten. Flying in and looking out the windows was spectacular. The views as we approached of the landscape and the coastline were just beautiful. The preparations for this visit to Italy were not that extensive. However, there were discussions about our accommodation in Tuscany, car rental, or car hire. Most of our family was there prior to us and they had set a lot of this trip up. My oldest brother wanted all of us to celebrate his 50th birthday together. He rented a villa in Tuscany and gave us the dates to show up. We almost didn’t make it. But with some big family help we did. I am the only girl from a family of seven. Our grandfather came from Italy. So I am also half Italian and my husband was adopted from an orphanage in Rome when he was about 5 years old. We had done some genealogy research years ago. Visiting Italy had many purposes. I wanted to see the attractions and travel to Tuscany to view its beauty. More important, I wanted my husband to see where he came from and have some connection to his past. An extra bonus was creating all these memories on this family vacation for us and our children. My brothers were all there with their hired driver to greet us. The traditional Italian kiss. I had their itinerary. We were suppose to spend the day in Rome since we were there but half the family was missing. They looked tired from their previous weeks schedule. They asked if we cared if we just kicked back at the villa for the day?! Kick back in Tuscany for the day! What a ridiculous question. Of course we’d love to. Our travel to Tuscany was a 3 hour trek to the villa. They slept and we quietly sat in amazement with the beauty of this land. The golden sunflower fields, the red poppies, and the perfectly lined rows of olive and grape trees. Our travel to Tuscany ends. We have arrived at the villa. The beauty of a dirt road winding around olive and grape tree groves right where we were staying seemed unreal. People live like this. The accommodations at the villa were beautiful inside and out. Perfectly landscaped Tuscany gardens. The plants and flowers were astounding. All this perfection tucked around hills and valleys. Many hugs and kisses later we grabbed a glass of Italian wine and sat back to catch up on our families travels. Their visit to Italy started with trips to Venice, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Arezzo, Lucca and Cortona. We sat back and enjoyed their conversations about everything they had seen and done. We had some antipasti more wine and started to cook dinner. This is definitely one of the advantages of your accommodations being a villa in Tuscany. Grocery shopping locally and cooking yourself. That night we retreated to the pool area and watched the most beautiful sunset over the hills of Tuscany.
